In the wake of John Cedars‘ timely release of ultra-sensitive details regarding the downsizing of Jehovah’s Witness magazine production and the complete overhaul of their weekday meeting arrangement, I thought it would be enlightening to pre-release this information by email directly to active Jehovah’s Witness elders, ministerial servants, pioneers, and JW construction volunteers.

The email was simple – it was prefaced with the following message:

“Greetings to all:

Many have asked about the discontinuation of the Theocratic Ministry School and Service Meeting, along with the introduction of the simplified Bible Teach book and the further reduction of printing of the Watchtower and Awake magazines beginning in 2016. In addition, details about the new Life and Ministry Meeting along with the new Organized book have been a topic of discussion.

With this in mind we would like to present to you the details of these new meetings and publications. This information is accurate and up to date and will answer most of your questions.”

Following this intro were the details of all of the new changes, as highlighted by JW Survey.

Approximately 2,000 active JWs received this information, and if you know anything about JW culture, the rumor mill will be spinning at a high rate of speed today!

The reactions were immediate and decisive. Within hours, 7% of those who received emails “unsubscribed” to this JW News list.

Others decided to take things one step further and express their personal feelings. Many of these responses included anything but loving and kind Christian words. Quite a few expressed just how controlled they are by this organization. When you see these statements first hand it’s actually chilling. I really never fully appreciated just how deep inside the soul indoctrination reaches.

One sister replied:

“Thank you but I prefer that I receive my info from the Governing Body. I do not like third party info, especially since it has not been read at any of our Christian meetings. Please remove my name from your list to send out info that should only be coming from the Governing Body. I’ll wait on them to receive whatever vital information that needs to be given.”

Another sister said the following:

“I’m not sure how I got on this mailing list, but please remove my email address. I’m not sure it is appropriate to share information about organizational changes especially since you say that they will be announced at the Annual Meeting on October. Shouldn’t you just let the Governing Body make these announcements? Wouldn’t that be following theocratic order?”

Indoctrinated much?

As further evidence that the Jehovah’s Witness organization is undergoing unusual change, some of the responses expressed complete denial. One individual said:

“This is phony and not sure how you received my email but Jehovah God sees all. I am praying for you”

It’s nice they are praying for me. They better pray harder.

One brother replied:

“I don’t know who you are but please DO NOT send me anymore emails with unverified, untrue information.”

The following email is so jam-packed and dripping with a combination of venom and ridicule, it deserves to hang in the my office next to my Anthony Morris poster:

“who the heck are you…. you must have a lot of time on your hands as well as a vivid imagination….a true tool of Satan! Please don’t send me anything else. This was almost laughable…….”

So there you have it – active JWs are informed by an “outside” source that changes in the organization are afoot, and they are viewed as the laughable “untrue” rantings of someone with a “vivid imagination.” Wait one week – they won’t be laughing.

Among other responses, I received the following email which made my blood run cold. There were no words, no sentences, no expressions of Christian concern, only one thing in the email – it was a scripture:

“Jeremiah 25:31-35”

Of course, I would not be a diligent student if I did not pull out the shrinking silver sword and look these verses up:

“31 ‘A noise will resound to the ends of the earth,
For Jehovah has a controversy with the nations.
He will personally pass judgment on all humans.*+
And he will put the wicked to the sword,’ declares Jehovah.

32 This is what Jehovah of armies says:
‘Look! A calamity is spreading from nation to nation,+
And a great tempest will be unleashed from the remotest parts of the earth.+

33 “‘And those slain by Jehovah in that day will be from one end of the earth clear to the other end of the earth. They will not be mourned, nor will they be gathered up or buried. They will become like manure on the surface of the ground.’

34 Wail, you shepherds, and cry out!
Wallow about, you majestic ones of the flock,
Because the time of your slaughter and your dispersion has come,
And you will fall like a precious vessel!

35 The shepherds have no place to flee,
And there is no escape for the majestic ones of the flock.”

That’s right- message clear, I have received a vicarious DEATH THREAT from Jehovah himself, delivered by email from a Jehovah’s Witness brother.

I believe that deep inside many religiously motivated fundamentalists lies an angry core of hatred which hides behind the Bible and its destructive and vicious god. These verses sum up the feelings of many (not all) Jehovah’s Witnesses, who feel vastly superior to their fellow humans and long to see their bodies piled high as punishment for apostasy.. or for saying no at the door to the thinly sliced Watchtower and Awake magazines which serve less purpose than a coloring book.

Take a moment an read those scriptures, and perhaps you will understand a little better the mind of the indoctrinated Jehovah’s Witness. Do not think for a moment that Christian values have overtaken the seedy underbelly of the Old Testament. When backed against the wall, the Jehovah’s Witness seeks and finds Hebrew Scripture justification for their indictment of humanity, at least the part of humanity not currently attending the Kingdom Hall.

I read those words of Jeremiah again, and further I am repelled by this god. Take a look at words used in the Jeremiah passage:

No, these are not words of kindness and tranquility from a god of love. They are words of anger and judgment, and now they have been applied to me. That’s OK, I’m not afraid of god anymore.

We are living in a very interesting time for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Words on pages have been replaced by words on tablets, smartphones and computers. Computers are connected to the almighty pipeline of human knowledge and social interaction, the very same information source which is steadily shredding apart religious cults.

The Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses is losing control. Words are leaking all over the place. Their elders manuals are no longer secret. Their private letters are no longer private. Even their classified Branch Manual operating guide has been leaked to the public. And now, the floodgates have broken open with the publishing of the Annual Meeting announcements, with changes so bizarre that many Witnesses won’t believe it unless they hear it for themselves.

The organization has little to offer its adherents. There used to be excitement at the mention of a new publication, a new “understanding” or a new meeting arrangement. Unfortunately, they are running out of tricks. No one wants their books anymore. No one wants the magazines. Their grade school writing and dumbing down of already infantile material is a sure sign that they are struggling to keep people interested.

So why take the effort to email these people and “spill the beans?”

It’s time to shake the JW tree and see what falls out. If you have news or information, use it. Take control, try to help people wake up. Don’t be afraid, you might irritate a few, but sometimes a needle stings a little before the medicine can cure the illness.

And if you get death threats from Jehovah – don’t worry, they aren’t real.
